Lotion Ingredient FAQ
Our lotions are made of 97% naturally derived ingredients + phthalate-free essential oil infused fragrance oils. In order for our labeling to meet FDA requirements, we’re required to list out the proper names of each ingredient but those can sound much bigger and scarier than they actually are! Below we’ve broken down what each of those big names actually are and what they do for you!
Water
Glyceryl Stearate - A fatty acid derived from plant oil which aids in creating a barrier for the skin to retain moisture.
Isopropyl Myristate - Another fatty acid oil which helps "fill in the cracks" for your skin cells to prevent moisture from escaping.
Caprylic/Capric Glyceride - A coconut oil/plant based glycerin combination which aids in binding ingredients and acts as a smoothing agent for the skin.
Stearic Acid - A fatty acid derived from shea butter which acts as a thickener.
Stearyl Alcohol - A compound derived from stearic acid, a naturally occurring fatty acid which acts as an emulsifier and thickener.
Cetearyl Alcohol - Derived from plant oils, aids in preventing the lotion ingredients from separating.
Soybean Oil - Oil from soybeans which acts as an emollient (to soften and smooth) and is rich in antioxidants.
Shea Butter - Natural fatty substance obtained from the seeds of the shea tree.
Dimethicone - A synthetic polymer of silicon (which is actually a natural element) which acts as an emollient to smooth and soften the skin, it also helps to prevent moisture loss in the skin.
Sunflower Oil - Natural, extremely moisturizing, and soothing on the skin as well as being high in Vitamin E.
Aloe Leaf Juice - Natural, extremely soothing for the skin.
Goat Milk - A natural moisturizer for the skin high in proteins, triglycerides, and Vitamins that help hydrate the skin.
Honey - A natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory to soothe the skin, promotes collagen formation in the skin.
Methylparaben + Propylparaben DMDM Hydantoin - Because the lotions are made with naturally derived ingredients, it is also important that we use preservatives to maintain them. Whenever there is water + natural ingredients, there is a predisposition to bacterial/fungi growth. Preservatives prevent this growth and give you a long-lasting, cleaner product. Fun Fact, parabens actually occur in nature! The parabens created and used in our lotion are identical in chemical composition to naturally occurring parabens. They are also hypoallergenic
